Bridal Lingerie

You may be wondering whether to choose a strapless bar, corset, pretty knickers or big, control pants. Here are the things you need to consider:

How the underwear looks under your dress

It needs to be invisible - so think about any colour shining through, if your dress is quite slinky you will need smooth underwear.
Function of the underwear - do you need any extra help in certain areas? Look at lingerie that will give you tummy control, a boost to your cleavage or a tiny waist. Does the underwear need to be strapless or low at the back?

Comfort

You'll be wearing it for many hours, so you need to be comfortable. Make sure whatever you choose is comfortable - both when you stand and sit down. You don't want bits of boning sticking into you! If you want to wear stockings but aren't used to them, have a practise to see if you get on with them. If it's going to be hot, consider doing without tights.

How it looks

Ideally your wedding underwear will hold you in where you need, be invisible under your dress and be comfortable to wear. If this is a flesh coloured bust to knee corset then you might want to think about having another set to change into for your wedding night!

Make sure you buy your underwear before your first dress fitting - this means after you have chosen your dress and been measured, but for your first try on. Ask your dress shop for advice - for example if the dress is boned already you may not feel you need a bra. Some dresses should still be worn with one to avoid chaffing (!).

You'll also need to think about your hosiery - for a very clingy dress you may find hold-ups are better than tights. If your shoes are mules you are best to avoid tights and stockings completely or risk slipping out of your shoes.
