Flowers

Finding a florist

Try asking your venue if they have any recommendations, look online and try wedding directories/local florists. As with any supplier you'll want to get a few quotes. Decide first what you want from them - the number of bouquets, table decorations, button holes and pew ends etc.

You may want to flick through examples of their work with them, or get an idea first of what you'd like to be used.

Choosing flowers

Once you've decided on a colour scheme you can choose your flowers.
The next step is to see what flowers will be in season in the month you're getting married.
There are several reasons to choose flowers that are in season. They are more likely to be:
  • cheaper
  • in top condition
  • environmentally friendly (as they haven't been forced in heated greenhouses or flown in)
  • more in keeping with your wedding. Who wants to see snowdrops in August?
This is a great site for showing what flowers will be in season in the month you're getting married and includes pictures of all flowers which is a real help if you're not familiar with the name.

Deciding on a quote

Factors to bear in mind include:
  • price - is it within budget?
  • examples of other work - did it look professional? Did they have examples of work that was similar to what you would like?
  • florist personality - did you get on with them, will they be difficult to deal with? Did they have suggestions that fitted with your vision for the day?
  • logistics - are they able to deliver when you would like?
  • can they supply what you want? Can they hire vases/lights etc if you require?
