Are you a fan of Star Trek, Doctor Who or Lord of the Rings? We’ve travelled to far flung distant galaxies and braved hordes of blood sucking aliens (well, ok, we’ve trawled the internet) to bring you the very best ideas for your cult sci-fi wedding seating plans. Follow the links for examples of the ideas mentioned.
The Tardis is an iconic image that guests will recognise even if they do not share your love of all things Doctor. Look at this great wedding seating plan, which uses luggage labels hung in a Tardis style frame, with past doctors used as table names (there were 11 ‘official’ doctors).
Get creative and make your very own ‘Cardis‘ – a Tardis shaped box for guests’ cards. These Tardis boxes are perfect to put your chosen favours in. These wedding invitations would lend themselves perfectly to Tardis escort cards.
For all the Trekkies among you, a Star Trek wedding seating plan can be based around your favourite part of the saga, for example:
- Starfleet starships, i.e. Enterprise, Voyager, Nautilus – see the complete list.
- Characters – Spock, Kirk, Scottie… The one shown here is a great example – here is a complete list of characters.
- Races, i.e. Klingon, Borg, Romulan… Here is a complete list.
Use a Star Trek design to create your own Star Trek place cards, and use engraved Star Trek champagne flutes at the tables, which can also double up as favours. For a great photo opportunity, a life size cut out of your favourite Star Trek captain behind the top table will be the talking point of the evening!
Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy
Full of obscure humour and quirky references, fans of the Hitchhiker’s Guide will undoubtedly call their wedding seating plan ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Wedding‘, give each guest a towel as a favour, number the top table as 42 and place bowls of petunias at the centre of each table. Leave copies of the book at each table and challenge your guests to spot as many obscure references to the book as they can!
Lord of the Rings / Hobbit
This fantastic Tolkien style map make a great seating plan. Table names could be famous Tolkien places such as Hobbiton, or based on the main characters, for example Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gangee and Peregrin Took. Alternatively, use this translator to translate your chosen table names into runes!
Here is a seating plan based on the bride and groom’s favourite sci-fi, fantasy and cult books – can you guess them all?
Of course, there is no need to stick to the four examples in this blog, choose your own favourite cult sci-fi book or film – for example, Buffy, Dark Star, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Starship Troopers, Ghostbusters, Fifth Element, Minority Report, 2001: A Space Odyssey or Game of Thrones – the list is endless!
